Ray Verhelst, founder of the Electric Bike Association, on how and why the Electric Bike Expo began, and where it’s going.

Paul and Desiree are part of a group in Walk Bike Glendale working on getting a bike path on the Verdugo Wash. Dennis Hindman is a bike futurist. Beth Slade, Events Director at Transportation Alternatives, informs us the Tour de Staten Island, April 23, 2017.

At a post-Ciclavia party in Culver City with: Patrick Murray, electric Pedersen bike rider; @5:16 Tafarai Bayne, Ciclavia’s Chief Strategist; and @11:24 Keith Martin, a volunteer who’s worked every single Ciclavia. @19:42 Carolin Kewer, on the origins of Art Crash ride.

Tami co-founded Wheelhouse, a bike/coffee shop in LA Arts District, with her husband Chase. They sell Handsome Bikes.
Ben Morrison is a co-founder of Hansome Bikes in Minneapolis. He was at Kit and Ace Menswear in Pasadena to promote a partnership with Blue Dot furniture, also based in Minneapolis, to create the Blue Dot Handsome Bike. Proceeds go to World Bicycle Relief.
In between, we have an interview with Jesse Ramon, a member of the Mom Ridazz bicycle community and campaigner for Joe Bray-Ali (City Council District 1 bike mechanic who’s trying to make Los Angeles great; see all our latest episodes for more info).

Listen: Carlos Morales and Nick Richert talk with Vince Chang of Bike SGV on the March 5 626 Open Streets ride, Stan’s Bike Shop’s mechanic George Ramirez on the shop’s move, CHP officer Jerry Espinoza on bike safety and rider visibility, and Joe Bray Ali on the last moves before March 7, which will determine the direction of Los Angeles’ City Council District 1 (bikes and safe streets or cars and big oil, among other important issues).
In this throwback episode, bike lane activists Karin Kroener, Joe Linton, Don Ward, and Josef Bray-Ali had just left a meeting held at Franklin High School in Highland Park. They expressed their frustration at LA’s City Council District 1 representative Gil Cedillo and Chief of Staff Arturo Sanchez for “micromanaging” the meeting, and fighting against the fully funded and approved Figueroa st. bike lane called for in LA’s bike plan.

In 2009, then-Councilmember Eric came down to Santee High School’s gym to talk with Nick Richert, ELA teacher/coach, with a posse of his CD13 staff. This showed how important bikes are to him–in part because, as he says here, “the bicycle community is probably the best organized political group in the city–after homeowners.” I’m putting this up as cycling advocates and groups like Bike the Vote are wondering if he’s stood up enough for cyclists, as we go to vote on March 7th.

TJ and Joe talk about their respective bike stores, Orange 20 and Flying Pigeon, which provided hubs to bike communities in their neighborhoods, but have proved unprofitable. Both are moving on–TJ to a career with a gaming company, Josef to a run for LA Council District 1 representative. At 1:05:08, Carolin Kewer discusses her ride, “Art Crash,” in front of the Miro water sculpture at LACMA. Also with voices from her latest ride.
